Question # 016
Is it ok to read Quran while drinking coffee or is that disrespectful?
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
When reciting the Qur'an, we are taught to do so in a respectful manner. When reciting, one should focus and concentrate on the Qur'an alone, the pronunciation of letters, its meaning, and the message our creator is sending us. As such, one should try to avoid drinking coffee when praying as it is considered disrespectful.
This does not however mean that one should reduce his recitation of the Qur'an. Our goal is to improve our relationship with our Lord, and to remember him at all times. As such, one should recite The Holy Qur'an as often as possible and should take advantage of all their free time. Of course, adhering to etiquette and manners is also important.
