Q42 - If one makes a mistake while reciting one of the salah supplications/dhikr (Fatihah/surahs, ta

Question # 042

If one makes a mistake while reciting one of the salah supplications/dhikr (Fatihah/surahs, tasbeeh, tashahud, etc.), how long does one have to correct it, and does this require sajda-as-sahw? What if it is behind an imam?

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

May Allah (swt) reward you for your concern. When praying alone, and a waajib (obligatory ) aspect is left out unintentionally, sajdah sahw will be made to rectify the mistake. If the mistake was made intentionally, then the salaah would have to be repeated. Intentional or not, if a fardh action was nullified, or left out, a sajdah sahw will not rectify such a mistake, and repeating the prayer is necessary. When praying behind an Imam, if one made his own mistake, there will be no sajdah sahw (the Imam`s prayer will be enough to rectify his ).

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
